To begin with some sketches, here is a warmup bust sketch of the infamous Saffine. Before I jump into a full illustration, I like to do small doodles to prepare for a large scale sketch. Usually these are random and largely unrelated to the bigger project I'll work on but they're fun regardless.

Here is a sketch with some planning for Saffine's outfit design. I wanted to jot down some thoughts and ideas to be as deliberate as I could about the choices made on what she would wear on a daily basis that would become her brand.
Here are some really early iterations of Saffine and her outfit, these were done as a quick and dirty way to visualize some design choices.

A quick expression sheet done as a warmup much like the first bust on this page. One of my goals as a character artist is to push body language and facial expressions to make characters fluid rather than stiff and neutral.
This is a sketch of an illustration that never was. During one of her travels, Saffine had adopted a cat and I had this idea to draw her and her new feline friend and so I sketched this out.

Much like the previous one, this sketch had originally meant to be fully completed but it never ended up coming to fruition. That said, I'm quite happy with this sketch and where I ended up. I may revisit this idea and the previous one at a later date.
